On October 8, 2014 the Brookings Institution, Washington, DC hosted the fifth session of the Albright-Talbott-Ivanov Arms Control Initiative, established three years ago as a mechanism of informal high-level consultations. The meeting was attended by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Brookings Institution President Strobe Talbott, as well as former American officials and diplomats. The Russian side was represented by RIAC President Igor Ivanov and its Director General Andrey Kortunov.

The discussions at the fifth meeting focused on possible Russia-U.S. interaction in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, the problem of maintaining the ceasefire in the east of Ukraine, preventing escalation of the socio-economic crisis in the country, as well as the future of the European security architecture. The current issues of the Russian-American cooperation on resolving the Iranian nuclear problem were discussed too.
