On July 28, 2022, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) held a round table “Future of the Settlement of the Situation in Syria in the Context of the Ukrainian Conflict”. The goal of the meeting was to discuss the prospects for resolving the Syrian conflict in the new conditions. The round table was attended by the leading Russian experts.

During the round table, there was a discussion on the prospects for the political stabilization of Syria in the context of internal and external threats. In addition, experts discussed the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the prospects for the settlement of the situation in Syria.

Andrey Kortunov, Director General RIAC, delivered opening remarks.

In the framework of the event, there was a presentation of the RIAC working paper “Political Economic Model for Settling the Situation in Syria in the Context of the Ukrainian Conflict”. The working paper was presented by Igor Matveev, Senior Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOS RAS).
