A round table discussion was held between the Russian International Affairs Council and the U. S. Atlantic Council on 13 November in Washington, D.C. The participants were RIAC President Igor Ivanov, RIAC General Director Anrei Kortunov, General James Jones, General Brent Scowcroft, members of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, and leading researchers from the U.S. Atlantic Council.

The participants were RIAC President Igor Ivanov, RIAC General Director Anrei Kortunov, General James Jones, General Brent Scowcroft, members of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, and leading researchers from the U.S. Atlantic Council.

The meeting focused on the current situation in Russian-American relations, the outlook for their development, and prospects for expansion of Russian-U.S. cooperation in various fields and the world’s regionы. In particular, the agenda involved Russian-American interaction in the Asia-Pacific Region, the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.

The participants also dwelled on such areas of possible Russian-American cooperation as cyber security, food security, and the fight against terrorism and political extremism. They highlighted particularly the nuclear dimension of relations between Moscow and Washington, the issues of nuclear deterrence, and cooperation between Russia and NATO.

The leaders of the Russian International Affairs Council and U.S. Atlantic Council agreed to continue consultations with an eye to cooperating on joint projects.
