On September 17, 2012 a meeting was held in Alexander House Business Center between RIAC executives and experts and a group of Japanese researchers and journalists. The participants of the meeting were welcomed by the Council’s General Director A. Kortunov, who introduced to the guests members of the RIAC Working Group for Russian-Japanese Relations: Chief Researcher of the Institute of US and Canadian Studies of RAS, Ambassador A. Panov, Director of the Center for Japanese Studies of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of RAS V. Kistanov, Editor-in-Chief of POLIS magazine S. Chugrov.

The participants of the meeting were welcomed by the Council’s General Director A. During the meeting a wide spectrum of issues was discussed. The participants of the discussion took most concern in the problems of security cooperation in the Asian-Pacific region, prospects of resolving the “Northern territories” problem, prospects of Russia-U.S. relations after the U.S. presidential election, and specifics of Russia’s commercial and economic cooperation with Japan and China.

The meeting allowed exchanging expert opinions on potential of building a multipolar system in East Asia.
