On March 13, 2013 Anton Tsvetov, RIAC program assistant, took part in the Third Guber Readings “Southeast Asian Countries and the West: Diversity of Interaction. History and Modern Times”. The conference was organized by the MSU Institute of Asian and African Studies. It is held once every two years gathering experts-orientalists from leading scientific research centers for study of the economy and policies of Southeast Asian countries. The readings are traditionally dedicated to the memory of Alexander Andreyevich Guber, member of the Academy of Sciences, founder of Russian science in the field of Southeast Asian studies.

The conference was opened by Mikhail Meyer, IAAS president, who spoke of the importance of practical approach to the discussion of pressing problems of Southeast Asia’s development stressing the necessity of involving young orientalists in scientific discussions. In his presentation at the conference RIAC representative Anton Tsvetov described the main areas of the Council’s activities, especially in the field of Southeast Asian studies. The experts were invited to take part in the discussion of RIAC’s new report “Russia’s Asian-Pacific Guidelines Following the APEC Summit in Vladivostok” based on the outcomes of the Second Asian-Pacific Forum held in Moscow on October 12-13, 2012.
