On September 27–30, 2023, the 3rd International Expert Forum “Russia — Middle East” is being held in St. Petersburg. The event is organized by the Evgeniy Primakov Center for International Cooperation and the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, RAS Institute of Oriental Studies.

Victoria Karslieva, Executive Director of the Evgeniy Primakov Center for International Cooperation, and Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director for Science at RAS Institute of Oriental Studies, RIAC Member, addressed the conference participants with welcoming remarks. The opening session started with a discussion on the development of statehood in the countries of the Middle East in the modern context. The discussion participants included Alexander Aksenyonok, RIAC Vice President, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, and Mohamed Kerrou, Professor for sociology at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of Tunis El-Manar University.

During the event the participants focused on a wide range of issues related to Middle East. In particular, experts discussed the dynamics of economic development and the transformation of foreign economic relations of the states of the region, as well as ensuring regional security in the Middle East. In addition, the meeting raised issues related to the resolution of the conflict in Yemen, the development of Russia-Iraq relations, deepening cooperation between Russia and Algeria, as well as interaction between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
