On November 14-16 Astana hosted the second meeting of Astana Club, an international discussion platform, organized by the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of  Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation. The event brought together political analysts, diplomats, economists, and social activists from over 20 countries, who discussed a number of Eurasian and global development issues.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan, made a speech at the meeting of the club in which he underscored that the dramatic drop in prices for commercial minerals and international trade slowdown put global economy in jeopardy. Kazakhstan leader also emphasized the importance of dialogue on current urgent economical and political issues.

«It is important to set the route in order to create an advantageous for all common economic space — the «Big Eurasia». In my opinion, such perspective is unavoidable. Continuous cooperation of SCO, EAEC, European Union, and «Silk Road Economic Belt» project is important, and eventually the entire Asia Pacific community. It’s not an option to disregard this vector of continental, and at the same time, global development, without prejudice to progress, prosperity, and security of each Eurasian nation. This is my committed position», said Nursultan Nazarbayev

Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) was represented by Ivan Timofeev, Program Director, RIAC, who took part in the session «Eurasia: Nodal Point of World Geopolitics?»

«Nodal point – is either a game, when the continent is torn between the players, and the USA, China, Russia, and regional states are playing it. Or it is an attempt to create a regional synergetic projects», underscored Ivan Timofeev on the sidelines of the event.

An analytical report «Eurasia at the Crossroads: the Future of the Supercontinent in the Global World» was presented at the club meeting.
