On March 12, RIAC representatives Anton Tsvetov and Vladimir Morozov attended the opening ceremony of academic conference "BRICS in the Modern World: Specifics and Prospects for Strategic Partnership" in MGIMO-University. The forum gathered young foreign policy scholars, as well as undergraduates from RIAC partner universities and corporate member organizations, among them MGIMO, Higher School of Economics, University of Peoples' Friendship, Financial University of the Russian Federation Government, Kutafin Moscow State law Academy, St. Petersburg State University, Nizhniy Novgorod Lobachevsky State University, and Urals Federal University, as well as representatives of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation.

The forum gathered young foreign policy scholars, as well as undergraduates from RIAC partner universities and corporate member organizations, among them MGIMO, Higher School of Economics, University of Peoples' Friendship, Financial University of the Russian Federation Government, Kutafin Moscow State law Academy, St. Petersburg State University, Nizhniy Novgorod Lobachevsky State University, and Urals Federal University, as well as representatives of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation.

The conference was opened by Dr. Lyudmila Okunyeva, Director of MGIMO Institute for International Studies and Professor of Department for European and American History and Politics, who described the prospects for international cooperation studies within the BRICS framework.

Vadim Lukov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia’s sous-sherpa in G8, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Coordinator for G20 and BRICS Affairs focused his address on the priorities in the field, the roots of BRICS, as well as the need for improvement of the global financial and economic architecture, building of the multipolar world and the need to overcome the common modernization challenges facing BRICS countries.

Alexey Shestopal, Director of the Ibero-American Center and Head of MGIMO Philosophy Department, spoke on the growing importance of the system of values in world politics and the role of inter-cultural and inter-civilizational dialog within BRICS.

On behalf of RIAC, program coordinator Anton Tsvetov presented report "G20, G8, BRICS Development and Interests of Russia" and the special issue of the International Organizations Research Journal prepared by RIAC in cooperation with Higher School of Economics and devoted to BRICS and G20. He also invited the audience to cooperate with RIAC and briefed the meeting on the opportunities for participation in RIAC contests, schools and other programs for young scholars.
