Days of the Russian International Affairs Council, the already traditional event, have just come to an end in Tomsk, where the RIAC team brought a most intensive and substantive package that included educational and expert-level programs at Tomsk State University, as well as working meetings with the Regional Government and Tomsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The primary aim of RIAC delegation’s trip was engaging in working relations the Tomsk University, which this year it is acquiring the status of a RIAC corporate member, the Regional Government, businesses and exporters.

The RIAC Days were opened by RIAC Program Director Ivan Timofeev who addressed the University faculty and managerial staff with presentation of RIAC’s key activities, working formats for foreign relations experts, and projects related with university internationalization.

Due to the University’s special interest to Asia-pacific issues, the RIAC group was strengthened by Professor Sergey Luzyanin, Deputy Director of RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, prominent scholar and RIAC project manager on Russia-China relations, who read a lecture on main trends in China’s domestic and foreign policies, prospects of relations between Moscow and Beijing, and the Asia-Pacific situation.

The main element of the visit was the two-day training carried out by RIAC Program Manager Ekaterina Chimiris and Program Coordinator Anna Kuznetsova who devoted their time to the development of the English-language website for the staff of the University that attaches great significance to this activity within the internationalization process. The participants found the RIAC initiative most opportune, especially as the training was based on the A+Standard methodology for content analysis and development created by RIAC experts.

The RIAC team was received by Alexei Stukanov, Head of Department for International and Regional Relations of the Tomsk Region, for discussing RIAC’s consultative and analytical practices in cooperation with regional administrations, businesses and universities, as well as prospects for interaction during major international events.

Dr. Timofeev also met Arkady Eskin, President of Tomsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to discuss bilateral cooperation formats and potential outcomes, after which the RIAC team held a workshop for Tomsk exporters and Chamber officials.

It was our maiden trip to Tomsk, and I was pleasantly surprised by the city, where the university, administration and businesses work in harmony, generating a feeling that one is dealing with a smoothly running mechanism operated by the like-minded. At all levels, one may see great demand for development of international ties and scrupulous attention to our proposals. The attitude is definitely half the battle,” said Dr.Timofeev.
