On May 10, 2012 Russian International Affairs Council jointly with the Gorchakov Fund for Public Diplomacy Support held an awarding ceremony for the winners and laureates of the “Global Prospects” competition of best scientific work among young international affairs scholars. Over 50 people – winners, contest organizers and guests- took part in the ceremony.

On May 10, 2012 Russian International Affairs Council jointly with the Gorchakov Fund for Public Diplomacy Support held an awarding ceremony for the winners and laureates of the “Global Prospects” competition of best scientific work among young international affairs scholars. Over 50 people – winners, contest organizers and guests- took part in the ceremony.

In the opening word Igor Ivanov, RIAC President underscored the significance of the Council’s educational program. “One of the major lines of our activities is collaboration with universities and young international affairs scholars. On the one hand, we seek to participate in devising proposals on most pressing problems of international life and Russia’s foreign policy, on the other – to provide assistance to Russian higher educational establishments in their effort to train highly skilled specialists in international relations.”- said I. Ivanov.

Addressing the audience A. Kortunov, RIAC Director General, elaborated on the organizational aspect of the contest. The first original nomination “Best PhD dissertation on international affairs defended in 2011” was later, in course of debates and project implementation, complemented by two other nominations “Best article published in a Russian scientific journal” and “Best translation of a foreign scientific article”. Besides, the age ceiling of contestants admitted to participate in the competition was raised to 35 years old. A number of prospective nominations such as scientific publications in foreign authoritative editions, newspaper and Internet publications will be included into the agenda of future contests.

I.Timofeev, RIAC Program Director, introduced the winners and laureates of the contest who were awarded honorable diplomas. Independent experts selected 30 best works out of more than 100 submitted for the competition in three nominations.

The official part of the ceremony included the speeches made by the winners of the contest O.Kulkova, S. Ivanov and O. Shakirov. Young researchers emphasized the importance of RIAC-organized events and expressed hope for the future cooperation with the Council.
